This was the wonderkid's first season in the first team squad at the club after signing from Lyngby in March '97 and then spending the 97-98 campaign on loan at RKC. The speedster immediately made a good impression on boss Bobby Robson earning his trust to play in 6 out of 8 Champions League games and 19 in the Eredivisie. PSV had to settle for 3rd place in a tight group, just missing out on a place in the Quarter Finals to Benfica with Kaiserslautern top. Rommedahl wore the number 29 in this debut season before switching to #19 from 99-00 onwards. The Dane grew in stature year on year and ended his time with PSV in 2004 with 4 Eredivisie titles. Rommedahl went on to become his country's second most capped outfield player, retiring after 126 appearances and featuring at four major international tournaments
